4th Community Matters Foundation 5K
The Community Matters Foundation 5K, also known as Dave’s Dewey Dash, is a memorial running and walking event held in Dewey Beach, Delaware. The race serves as the sixth part of the Ten Sisters of Dewey Beach Road Race Series. The event is organized in memory of a local homeowner to raise awareness about cardiac arrhythmia and to fund the donation of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the local beach community.
Participants can choose from the following categories:
- 5K Run/Walk
- Competitive Walking 5K (strictly no running or jogging)
The race starts and finishes at North Beach Restaurant on McKinley Street. The course is chip-timed using the MYLAPS Bib Tag Timing System. For the first 155 registered participants, gender-specific t-shirts are guaranteed. Additional amenities include giveaway items and a post-race party featuring food and beverages for participants aged 21 and over.
Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female masters. Furthermore, the top three finishers in five-year age groups, ranging from 9 and under to 80 and over, receive recognition. There are also specific awards for the top three male and female competitive walkers. Limited parking is available on-site, with free street and meter parking typically available in the surrounding area until late morning.
