Columbia Triathlon
The Columbia Triathlon is a multi-sport event held at the Clemens Crossing Pool in Columbia, Maryland. This USA Triathlon sanctioned race features two different distances, making it accessible for varying experience levels. Both options include a pool swim, a road bike course with moderate elevation changes, and a run on a flat paved trail.
The event offers the following distances:
- Sprint: Includes a 400-yard pool swim (16 lengths), a two-loop 10-mile bike ride, and a two-loop 3-mile run.
- Super Sprint: Consists of a 200-yard pool swim (8 lengths), a one-loop 5-mile bike ride, and a one-loop 1.8-mile run.
Participants start the swim individually in a time-trial format based on their self-seeded 100-yard swim time. Flip turns are not permitted during the swim. The bike course takes place on well-maintained roads open to vehicle traffic, while the run course includes one aid station providing water and Gatorade.
Registration includes a soft cotton t-shirt and a finisher medal. Athletes must check in person at the race venue and provide a photo ID. A free transition clinic and a pre-race course talk are held the day before the event to assist participants with technical preparations and course familiarity. Awards are presented for the Sprint distance only, covering various age groups and overall categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
