Scenic Racing in the Poudre Canyon
The Colorado Marathon takes place annually in the Rocky Mountains near Fort Collins. The event features four distinct distances that cater to different preferences, including the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k. Recognized as the RRCA Colorado State Marathon Championship for multiple consecutive years, the race is known for its fast downhill trajectory. Approximately 16-18% of participants in the full marathon distance traditionally meet qualifying standards for the Boston Marathon.
The courses are set within the Poudre Canyon, where participants run along the banks of the Cache La Poudre River. The landscape includes canyon walls and tree-lined slopes. While the longer distances utilize the canyon roads, the shorter courses wind through the natural areas and habitats of Fort Collins. The local climate in May typically features low humidity and daily high temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees.
The event offers several distances:
- Full Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10k
- 5k
The organizers maintain an environmentally conscious approach by utilizing digital registration and e-goody bags to reduce paper waste. The race concludes with a post-race party in Fort Collins. Participants have the flexibility to change to a shorter distance after registration if their fitness requirements change. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
