Clwydian Hills Fell Race : Clwydian Fell Races
The Clwydian Hills Fell Race is a mountain running event based at Cilcain. The main race covers 14.2 km with about 910 m of ascent and is categorised as Category A (Hard). The main race is for entrants over 18 only. Entry is available via Fabian4 with online entry at £8 and on the day registration at £10.
The event uses Cilcain Water Works and the village hall for race facilities. The grid reference is SJ 177 653 and the SatNav postcode given for the village hall is CH7 5NN; the Waterworks postcode is CH7 5PF. Parking at the Waterworks is limited; alternative parking is the Viewpoint car park or on village roads. The final couple of miles into the village are on narrow roads, the preferred approach is from the Mold–Denbigh A541.
A kit dump is provided at the village hall and will be staffed while competitors are on the fells. As a Category A race it is mandatory to carry or wear the following: windproof full body cover, waterproof full body cover (may be required to carry or wear), map (GPS mapping devices not allowed), compass (digital compass acceptable), whistle, hat or buff, gloves, and sufficient food and drink to finish. The organisers note that weather on the fells can be poor in October.
The route received a minor revision in 2025 adding a new control CP4 while CP1 to CP3 remain; from the summit competitors now head directly toward the village hall on a sharp descent. After the race, refreshments are served in the village hall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
