Clear Lake Earth Day Races
The Clear Lake Earth Day races are part of a larger community celebration focused on sustainability and environmental awareness. Held in Clear Lake, Iowa, these running events take place at Clear Lake City Park and utilize various scenic routes around the lake area.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- 10 km
- 5 km
- Youth Mile
The 10 km and 5 km races begin lakeside at the Main Avenue boat ramp. Participants follow a loop around City Park before continuing along South Shore Drive. The 5 km route reaches its turnaround point at the intersection of 20th Avenue South, while the 10 km course extends further, with a turnaround located near Lakeside Cyclery. Both races conclude in front of the Lady of the Lake, where prizes are awarded to participants.
The Youth Mile is open to children of all ages and is designed to promote outdoor activity. Every finisher of the youth race receives a wooden medal and a coloring tote.
The running events are integrated into a broader festival called Outdoorfest, which takes place at the same location. This festival includes family activities such as a human foosball, a strider bike course, and various yard games. The Earth Day celebration also encompasses a weeklong community cleanup and a green expo. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
