Event
The Clear for Takeoff 5K takes place on June 27, 2026, in Wausau, WI (725 Woods Place, 54401). The race is timed. Organizers have partnered with the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to raise funds to send veterans to their memorials in Washington D.C. Registration details: pre-race registration is $35; the deadline to guarantee a race t-shirt is May 31. Day-of registration is $40 and a shirt is not guaranteed. The event will be capped at 1,000 entries. There will be race packets and each participant receives a race t-shirt, a pancake breakfast coupon, and a runner packet. There is no early packet pick-up; packets are available on race morning.
Course and logistics
The route goes through airport grounds, part of the Southeast Side Neighborhood, and the Wings Over Wausau event grounds. The course starts inside the Elmwood Blvd. gate and finishes inside the airport grounds. Multiple planes will be on display during the event and there will be military participation. The surface may alternate between pavement and gravel. Age groups are separated by gender with these brackets: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and above. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female runners and to the top three finishers in each age group and gender. Parking is limited around the airport. The race will be held rain or shine unless there is severe weather; there are no refunds due to race cancellation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
