City to the Sea Half Marathon & 5K
City to the Sea is an annual road running event organized by Cuesta College and presented by Running Warehouse. The event on October 18, 2026 includes a point to point half marathon that begins in downtown San Luis Obispo and finishes at Avila Beach, and a separate Avila-Seaside 5K that finishes at the Avila Beach Resort.
Course features for the half marathon include sections through local landmarks, country backroads, and the Bob Jones Trail before reaching the Pacific Ocean. The 5K runs partly along the Bob Jones Trail and offers coastal views for roughly 60 percent of the route; wildlife such as sea lions, otters and whales can sometimes be seen from the course. The event lists multiple registration periods with set entry fees. Early bird registration runs May 10, 2026 through May 31, 2026 (Half $93, 5K $40). General registration runs June 1, 2026 through August 30, 2026 (Half $110, 5K $50). A last chance period runs August 31, 2026 through September 27, 2026 (Half $125, 5K $60).
