City to the Sea Half Marathon & 5K
The event features two road running distances that travel between downtown San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach. The course for the half marathon follows local landmarks, country backroads and the Bob Jones Trail before reaching the Pacific shoreline. The 5K is an out-and-back with a loop, with roughly 60% of the route along the beach, harbor, and Bob Jones Trail.
Registration details are specified for each race, including opening and closing dates and entry fees. The half marathon has a 3 hour course cutoff and the 5K has a 1 hour course cutoff; runners remaining after those times may finish but will not receive course support from volunteers, law enforcement, or traffic control.
Finishers in both events receive a 2026 medal and a custom event t-shirt. The half marathon awards commemorative mugs to its top 100 men and women. After the finish, community vendors and live music are present and food and beverages are available for purchase; participants 21 and over may be offered a celebratory beer. Buses return half marathon participants to the start line in San Luis Obispo, and participants may arrange private transportation.
Entry fees are non refundable and non deferrable; transfers are allowed for a fee and organizers may add participants from a waitlist. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
