Event Overview
The third annual City of Westlake Community Run takes place on the grounds of the Westlake Recreation Center. This community event is organized by the Recreation Department in collaboration with the local Safety & Wellness Day. The course starts and finishes on the Recreation Center Campus, winding through the local area of Westlake, Ohio.
Distance and Timing
Participants can choose from several participation formats:
- 5k Run/Walk: A 3.1 mile chip-timed course.
- 5k Race Walk: A 3.1 mile chip-timed speed walking division following specific form requirements.
- 1 Mile Walk: An untimed 1 mile distance for walkers.
- Kids Dash: A 100 yard event for children aged 8 and under.
The speed walking division requires competitors to maintain ground contact at all times and keep the leading leg straightened from the moment of contact until it passes under the body.
Logistics and Amenities
Race shirts are provided to participants who register by August 31, 2026. The first 200 individuals registered for the main events are guaranteed a goodie bag. After the race, refreshments and fruit are provided, along with a pancake breakfast. Each paid registration includes one breakfast ticket, while children aged 5 and under can eat for free.
The event site includes an inflatable and music provided by a DJ. Following the running activities, the Safety & Wellness Fair begins at the Recreation Center, hosted by University Hospitals and the City of Westlake.
Awards
Awards are presented at the DJ booth for top finishers. For the 5k Run, prizes are given to the top overall male and female participants, as well as the top three finishers in age groups ranging from 10 and under to 70 and over. The 5k Race Walk provides awards to the top three overall men and women. All participants in the Kids Dash receive a commemorative medal.
