Event Overview

The Chris Mang Memorial Charity Fun Run/Walk is a charity event held in memory of Christopher Mang, a longtime participant in the Skagit County Special Olympics Program and a volunteer at Northwest Endurance Events. It supports the Christopher Mang Memorial Fund at the Skagit Valley Family YMCA. Registration fees are donated to this fund, which supports recreational programming and equipment for under-served youth and families, and those with special needs in the Skagit Valley.

Event Details

The event offers a 5k and a 1 Mile distance. It takes place at the Skagit Playfields County Park, located on the northeast side of Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, Washington. The courses follow trails bordering softball, baseball, and soccer fields, with surfaces varying between crushed gravel, compressed wood chips, and pavement.

The 5k course consists of three 1-mile counterclockwise loops around the complex, featuring moderate uphill and downhill sections on each loop, with the remainder being flat or having gentle grades. The 1-mile course follows the same path but returns to the finish after one loop. An aid station with water and sports drink is located at approximately the halfway point of each loop. The course starts near a large shelter on the west side of the softball fields.

Practical Information

Parking is limited close to the start area, but additional parking is available at the college. Tech shirts and hats will be available for purchase on race day. Finisher medals are awarded to all children. Music and food, including hot dogs and snacks, will be provided at the finish area. Day-of-race registration is available.
