Childish Nonsense
Childish Nonsense is a trail event at Deer Grove Forest Preserve west near Palatine, IL on April 24, 2027. The event is organized by CUSS Running, which presents running with a whimsical and community-focused approach.
The event offers the following distances:
- 50 Miler, 9 laps
- 50K, 6 laps
- 25K, 3 laps
- 5.5 Miler, 1 lap
Most of the trail is a wide path with few technical sections. There is a single aid station located at the start/finish area, which participants pass approximately every 5.5 miles. Crews may set up only at the start/finish; there are no sanctioned crew locations on the rest of the course. Fifty mile entrants are allowed a pacer after completing four laps.
The organizer notes there will be playful elements during the day described as shenanigans to help participants reconnect with their inner child. The event includes a policy to accept each entrant’s declared gender at face value and to provide options for non-binary participants to have pronoun information reflected in event records. The organizer also maintains a limited number of free entries reserved for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ athletes; distribution is handled privately.
