40th Annual C.H.H.I.P.S. Trot 'N Brew

The C.H.H.I.P.S. Trot 'N Brew is a 1.5-mile novelty race through the streets of Conyngham, Pennsylvania. This event is held in memory of Rocco Colangelo Sr. and Jr., with proceeds benefiting the Helping Hands Society. This non-profit organization provides developmental therapies for special needs and typical children in Luzerne, Carbon, and Schuylkill Counties.

Participants in this race navigate a course that includes several stops at local establishments. At each designated location, competitors are required to purchase a small draft beer for 25 cents before continuing toward the finish line. For those who do not consume alcohol, soft drinks are available as a substitute. All participants must be at least 21 years of age, carry quarters for their beverage purchases, and wear a shirt. A government-issued photo ID is mandatory for registration.

The event includes several categories:

  • Elite Heat 1.5 miles for runners maintaining a pace of 7:30 minutes per mile or faster.
  • Open Heats 1.5 miles starting every three minutes based on the establishment being represented.

Awards are given to the top male and female overall finishers, as well as the top three men and women in various age groups ranging from 21 to over 76. A fastest team award is calculated based on the times of the three fastest males and females representing a specific establishment. Additionally, non-competitive prizes are awarded for the best-dressed team and individual costumes. The race takes place rain or shine, starting from the CVCO Rec Center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
