Chevy Chase
The Chevy Chase is the 69th running of a long-distance fell event near Wooler, taking place on Saturday 4 July 2026. Entries open online on 1 February 2026 and the field is limited to 300 competitors, with a waiting list used if necessary. The event is affiliated to the Association of Running Clubs and holds permit number ARC/25/0060.
The course is approximately 20 miles through upland terrain in Northumberland. The unmarked route requires competitors to visit manned checkpoints in order and to navigate by map and compass; GPS alone is not acceptable. The route includes summits of Cheviot (2676 feet / 815 m) and Hedgehope (2348 feet / 714 m) and otherwise follows tracks, footpaths, sheep paths and rough fell with only a short road section.
There is an optional Challenge Walk on the same route, starting earlier, with a time limit of seven hours; running is not permitted in the walk category. Competitors must carry mandatory kit such as full waterproof body cover, warm clothing, hat and gloves, whistle, waterproof map of the area, compass and emergency food and drink. Random kit checks will be made.
The event centre and finish are at the Cheviot Centre, Padgepool Place, Wooler NE71 6BL, with registration, bag drop and kit checks taking place there. Parking arrangements include a long stay car park behind the church about 200 m from registration; short stay parking at Padgepool Place is restricted to two hours.
