Chevy Chase - Wooler Running Club
The Chevy Chase is a 20-mile upland event taking place on 4 July 2026, organised by Wooler Running Club. The event centre and finish are at the back of the Cheviot Centre, Padgepool Place, Wooler NE71 6BL; the start remains at the top of Ramsey Lane. Entries open on 1 February 2026 and there is a limit of 300 competitors, with further entrants placed on a waiting list.
The course visits two summits: Cheviot (2,676 ft / 815 m) and Hedgehope (2,348 ft / 714 m). The route is unmarked; competitors must visit manned checkpoints in the correct order and may choose their own lines across tracks, footpaths, sheep paths and rough fell. Only a short section is on road. Navigation by map and compass is required; GPS alone is not accepted.
A non-competitive Chevy Chase Challenge Walk follows the same route, with a separate start and a seven hour time limit. Walkers may have times recorded at checkpoints and may purchase a T-shirt; running is not permitted in the walk category.
Mandatory kit includes full waterproof whole-body cover, additional body cover appropriate for conditions, whistle, map, compass suitable for navigation, and emergency food and drink. Random kit checks will be carried out and competitors without required equipment will not be allowed to start. The event is affiliated to the Association of Running Clubs, permit ARC/26/0453.
