The 69th Chevy Chase
The event is a 20 mile upland course based at Wooler Youth Hostel in Northumberland. The route is unmarked and follows tracks, footpaths, sheep paths and rough fell, with only a short section on road. Participants must visit manned checkpoints in the correct order.
The route summits Cheviot at 2676 feet (815 m) and Hedgehope at 2348 feet (714 m). Navigation by map and compass is required due to possible low cloud and variable summer weather. Participants are expected to be fit, sure footed and prepared for all weathers. ARC safety standards apply.
The event includes the Chevy Chase Challenge Walk, which uses the same route but is run as a walking challenge with a seven hour time limit. The Walk is non competitive; walkers will have times recorded at each checkpoint and must not run any part of the course. Runners have a separate time limit of six hours.
Entry is limited to 300 places; a waiting list will be used if the event fills. Minimum age is 18 at the start of the year 2026. Entries open 1 February 2026 and close 1 July 2026. The entry fee is £30.00 and event tee shirts are available for £10.00 if ordered and paid for at the point of entry. Full details including required kit are provided by the organiser.
