Pilgrims' Ultra

Pilgrims' Ultra is an ultra distance race series along St Oswald's Way in Northumberland, with races on 26 September 2026. The route starts on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and follows coastal and inland sections of St Oswald's Way to designated finish points.

Distances

  • 50 km, finish at Craster
  • 100 km, finish at Rothbury
  • 100 mile, finish at Heaven Field

The route is waymarked for the majority of the trail but some short sections lack markers, so some self navigation is required. Competitors receive a high quality waterproof course map at registration and are issued a GPS tracker for live tracking. Downloading the course GPX file is recommended for those using electronic navigation.

The course includes coastal stretches that are generally flat after initial climbs, footpaths and trails with stiles and uneven ground, and more undulating inland sections for the longer races. For the 100 km and 100 mile races some sections may be run in the dark, so running and navigation in low light and use of a head torch are advised. Clothing should suit variable weather and off road trainers or trail shoes are recommended.

Entry information and support: entry fees start from £67. Entry includes a GPS tracker, race timing, stocked aid stations, race support and medical cover, and a finisher t shirt and medal. Transport from the finish back to the start is available for a charge. Entrants must be 20 or over under UKA rules. Online entries close 14 days before the event or when places are full. A seven day cooling off period allows a full refund; after that no refunds or deferrals are permitted. The organisers may modify or cancel the event for safety reasons and, if possible, will carry entries forward to a rescheduled date. Organisers are not responsible for competitors travel or accommodation costs if the event is cancelled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
