Essar Chester Half Marathon
The Essar Chester Half Marathon takes place in the city of Chester and is scheduled for 17 May 2026. The event starts and finishes in the historic Roman and Medieval city and uses a predominately flat city and rural route that is run entirely on closed roads.
The event forms part of the Chester Triple series and includes a qualifier for the England Athletics and Welsh Athletics Age Group Masters Half Marathon Championship. Race day also features a one mile Fun Run. Organisers provide free monthly paced training runs, seminars and a team of race day pace runners.
The race is supported by a title sponsor, Essar, which is investing in a low carbon refinery project near the race area with over £2.4 billion of committed investment and a large workforce involved in that programme. The event also encourages charitable participation, including through the official race charity, the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
