Essar Chester Half Marathon - 16 May 2027
The 2027 Essar Chester Half Marathon takes place in Chester and is scheduled as the 45th edition of this multi-award-winning event. The race starts and finishes in the city centre at Chester Racecourse, Watergate Street, CH1 2LY, and the route passes city centre sights and surrounding countryside.
The event is organised by Active Leisure Events Ltd and is run under UK Athletics rules; the course is measured by the AUKCM. The minimum age on race day is 17. Entry is available for the half marathon distance, with a Green Runner option in which the usual finishers' medal, T-shirt and goody bag are not issued and their cost is donated to the official race charity.
Pre-race provisions include access to training plans, free training runs, a personalised race pack sent by post (international runners collect numbers from the Help Desk on race weekend), and a social community for participant support. On race day there is on-course hydration and nutrition, medical support, a runners Help Desk, event tracking for supporters, free official race photos, and prizes for the top three men and women and age-group winners. Finishers receive a technical T-shirt, bespoke medal and a goody bag unless entered as a Green Runner.
Entry pricing is tiered with a special price of £41.60 until 28 June 2026, a standard price of £52.00 and a late price of £55.00. Entries are transferable to another runner through the official process before the event; places are non-refundable and deferrals are not offered unless the organiser postpones or cancels the event.
