2027 Essar Chester Half Marathon
The Essar Chester Half Marathon takes place on 16 May 2027 at Chester Racecourse, Watergate Street (CH1 2LY). This is the 45th edition and includes a qualifier for the England Athletics Age Group Masters Championships. The route starts and finishes in the city centre, passes city centre sights and surrounding countryside, and is supported by spectators along the course.
The event is a measured half marathon (AUKCM) and is held under UK Athletics rules. The minimum age on race day is 17. Entrants receive a personalised race pack sent by post; runners from outside the UK must collect numbers from the Help Desk on race weekend. UKA affiliated runners receive a £2 discount at checkout.
Before race day participants can access training plans, free training runs, supporter advice, and a social community. Options include a standard entry and a Green Runner entry: Green Runner entrants do not receive a finisher medal, T-shirt or goody bag and the cost of these items is donated to the official race charity.
On race day finishing runners receive a technical T-shirt, a bespoke medal and a goody bag unless they chose the Green Runner option. The event provides prizes for the top three men and women and winners of each age group, on-course hydration and nutrition, medical support, free official race photos, a runners Help Desk, and a tracking website for live progress.
