Event details
The Essar Chester Half Marathon takes place in Chester and is scheduled for 17 May 2026. The race starts and finishes in the city and is organised as the Essar Chester Half Marathon with Essar as the title sponsor. Entries are open for the 2026 event. The race is part of the Chester Triple series and also features a separate 1 mile Fun Run on race day.
Race format and support
The course is predominantly flat and combines city and rural sections. The half marathon route is run entirely on closed roads. The event hosts a qualifier for the England Athletics and Welsh Athletics Age Group Masters Half Marathon Championship. Organisers provide free monthly paced training runs, seminars, and a team of race day pace runners. The event uses volunteers for race-day operations. The official race charity is the Hospice of the Good Shepherd; runners may also raise funds for other charities.
