About the race
The Sandstone Trail Half is a point to point trail race held annually in early September. The course starts at Bickerton Hill National Trust car park (SY14 8LN) and follows the Sandstone Trail to finish at Kelsall Hill Equestrian Centre (CW6 0SR). The event replaced earlier Sandstone Trail Races in 2025. There is no parking at the start area.
Organisers provide a bus from the finish area to the start, or runners may arrange their own drop off and collection. The finish area includes showers and a cafe. The race has a marshal-enforced cut off of 3 hour 30 minutes. The route is waymarked with the yellow circular Sandstone Trail markers on posts, stiles and gates, and marshals are positioned where the trail meets local roads.
The route includes a timed crossing point on the A51; the time spent between the two controls at that crossing is deducted from each competitor’s overall time and this deduction appears on the results. Prizes for the top three men and top three women are awarded by time. There are two drink stations, located at about 6 miles and about 10 miles. Runners are advised to carry additional water, a mobile phone and extra outer clothing in case of bad weather.
The race is run under FRA rules and is open to entrants aged 16 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
