Cherry Blossom 5K
The Cherry Blossom 5K takes place at the Historic Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C. This site, founded in 1807, spans 35 acres and serves as the final resting place for over 70,000 individuals, including notable U.S. residents and Congressmen. The event marks its third year in 2026, held within the grounds located at 1801 E Street SE.
The course is set entirely inside the cemetery grounds, which feature several species of cherry trees such as Yoshino, Kanzan, and Okame. For the 2026 edition, the route consists of a slightly adjusted course with a pending USATF recertification. Participants can choose to complete the distance by running or walking.
Registration includes specific benefits and supports the non-profit mission of the cemetery, including environmental preservation efforts. Participants who register by the specified deadline of March 24 receive a commemorative t-shirt.
Available distances:
- 5K running race or walk
The cemetery remains an active burial ground and also functions as a dog-walking park through its K-9 Corps program. The landscape is characterized by its historical cenotaphs and significant collection of flowering cherry blossoms that typically bloom during the spring season.
