Cheltenham Running Festival
The Cheltenham Running Festival takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse and features chip timed races over three distances. Race packs include a timing chip that slots into the shoe laces to record start and finish times.
Distances offered:
- 5k
- 10k
- Half Marathon
The course is a flat 5k loop within the racecourse grounds. The surface is mostly tarmac with some sections of gravel and soft surface. The event layout uses laps: one lap for the 5k, two laps for the 10k, and four laps for the Half Marathon. Bottled water is provided at the 5k mark; 10k runners pass this once and Half Marathon runners pass it three times. A bottle of water is also available at the finish.
Minimum ages are set by distance: 5k from 11 years, 10k from 15 years, and Half Marathon from 17 years. Registration and race number collection take place at registration tents in the event village where participants give their name to receive their number and chip. An informal baggage system operates in a building within the event village. Results are published after the race and most results appear on national rankings such as RunBritain and Power of 10.
The racecourse provides a large free car park and marshals assist with parking from the main entrance. Dogs are not permitted on the race course but may spectate on a lead in the event village. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
