Charlottesville Turkey Trot 5k
The Charlottesville Turkey Trot 5k is held on Thanksgiving morning at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, Virginia. The event offers both a live 5k that starts and finishes next to Albemarle High School and a virtual 5k option. The course is through neighborhood streets with flat stretches and gentle rolling hills and has 133 feet of total elevation gain. Ample parking is available at Albemarle High School, Journey Middle School, and Greer Elementary.
The event supports two local food charities: the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank serves Central Virginia and is an affiliate of Feeding America. Loaves & Fishes, located on the race route, distributes food from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and provides free groceries to families and individuals, with many households receiving assistance multiple times per month.
Registration is $35 beginning September 1, with a late registration fee that increases to $48. Registration includes a soft technical race shirt while supplies last; registration by October 26 guarantees a shirt in the requested size. Packet pickup is scheduled at Connect Church on the two days before the race and a limited race morning pickup is available at Albemarle High School. The race uses chip timing and has local EMT medical services on site. No race refunds or deferrals are offered. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Strollers are allowed only in the final wave.
