Charlesworth Chase
The Charlesworth Chase is a fell race of approximately 5.2 miles with about 1,200 ft of ascent, graded BS. The course runs from the Craven Arms in Appletreewick to Simons Seat and back. Entry is for seniors only; competitors must be over 18.
The route leaves the Craven Arms along a road, crosses a field, then follows a track toward the river. Runners follow the river to Howgill, then ascend a forest road, cut a corner through trees and turn left off the track onto a rough path to the fell. From that point there is a direct line up to Simons Seat where competitors touch the trig before returning along the outward route.
Registration opens from 10.00am outside the Craven Arms, Appletreewick, N Yorks, BD23 6DA. The entry fee is £10 and includes the race and a drink. The entry includes a pint or half beer to be consumed on the finish line prior to the end of the race. Results and past race records are kept for several years; there were no races in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid. Recorded fast times include 35.57 (2023) and 42.42 (2025).
