Event
The Champions Run for Special Children takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2026. It is the 12th anniversary of a superhero-themed, certified 5K run/walk/roll and includes a 1 Mile fun run. The event benefits children with different-abilities and special needs and includes both individual and team competition. Teams of five or more receive a discounted registration rate of $20 per person.
Prizes and beneficiaries
Group prizes will be awarded for the largest number of participants in categories such as family, sorority/fraternity, business, school and church, plus awards for best team costume and most team spirited. Individual awards for male and female divisions include Overall, Masters (50+), and age-group awards for ages 70+, 60-69, 50-59, 40-49, 30-39, 20-29, 15-19, 10-14, and 9 and under. Additional awards include Best Costume for adult male, adult female and child. Proceeds support The Champions Center for special children (formerly DCEC), which provides daily care, educational and therapeutic services for children with conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus, Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, genetic conditions and developmental delays.
