Cedar River Triathlon
The Cedar River Triathlon is held at Lake Wilderness in Maple Valley, Washington. This super sprint multisport event utilizes the lake and the local trail system for its various segments. Participants begin with a 1/4-mile swim in Lake Wilderness, where water temperatures are typically around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The use of wetsuits is permitted and encouraged for this portion of the event.
The cycling and running portions of the race take place on a mix of surfaces, including asphalt roads, bike paths, and the hard-packed dirt and limestone of the Cedar River Trail. The course includes a scenic stretch across a trestle with views of the Cedar River. Recent adjustments to the route have removed staircases to provide a smooth transition onto the Cedar River Trail.
Available race formats include:
- Full Triathlon: 1/4S, 14B, 4R
- Relay: 1/4S, 16B, 4R
- Splash n Dash: Kids event for ages 7 to 15
Safety measures include certified lifeguards in the water and flaggers at road intersections. On-course support provides water, electrolyte drinks, gels, and first aid. Entrants receive a long-sleeve mesh t-shirt, and finishers are awarded a forged medal. Post-race refreshments such as apples, bananas, and oranges are provided at the finish line. Parking is available on-site at Lake Wilderness Park. All participants must ensure their bicycle handlebars are plugged. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
