Cedar Lake Triathlon Series #4
This event is the fourth of a six race summer series held every other Thursday evening at Cedar Lake in Chester, Connecticut. The program offers individual and relay sprint triathlons and a shorter super sprint, with preregistration required and no onsite registration.
Distances
- Sprint/Relay: ~500 yard swim, 10 mile bike, 5 km run
- Super Sprint: ~200 yard swim, 5 mile bike, ~1.7 mile run
The sprint swim is an out and back open water lake swim with buoys kept to the swimmer's left. Transitions are inside fenced perimeters at the lake and bike racks hold about ten bikes each. Wetsuits are encouraged when the water temperature is below 80 degrees and strongly encouraged for at least the first two races. Aqua jogging is not permitted.
The run follows a 3.1 mile out and back along the lake and approaches Cockaponset State Forest; the course is described as flat and smooth and runners stay on the lake side of the road. Course rules include helmet use on the bicycle, staying right unless passing, no drafting, a four bike length gap to the rider ahead, no earbuds, and remaining inside the cones. Organizers reserve the right to change the race to a duathlon, a 5K, or cancel in the event of inclement weather.
The super sprint requires racers to be at least 13 to start alone; a parent or guardian may accompany a racing child and race alongside them at no additional charge when accompanying the child for the entire event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
