Cedar Lake Triathlon Series #3
This event is the third race in a six-race summer series held every other Thursday night at Cedar Lake in Chester, CT. The program offers both individual and relay Sprint races and a shorter Super Sprint race, with awards for fastest and first finishers.
Distances:
- Individual and Relay Sprint: ~500 yard swim, 10 mile bike, 5K run
- Super Sprint: ~200 yard swim, 5 mile bike, 1.7 mile run
Swim courses are short out and back lake swims with buoys kept to the left. Transitions are within a fenced area with room for about ten bikes per rack. The run is an out and back of about 3.1 miles alongside the lake approaching Cockaponset State Forest; it is described as flat and smooth.
Logistics and rules note that racers must preregister online, there is no onsite registration, and races can reach capacity. Wetsuits are encouraged when water temperature is below 80 degrees and strongly encouraged for early races. Aqua jogging is not permitted. The Super Sprint has a minimum age of 13; a parent or guardian may race free when accompanying a child for the entire race.
Safety and course rules include helmet use on the bike, staying right unless passing, no drafting, no earbuds while racing, no crossing yellow lines, staying inside cones, and a no pass zone when approaching Transition 2. Organizers may convert the event to a duathlon or 5K or cancel in case of inclement weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
