Cat's Tail Marathon

The Cat's Tail Marathon is an approximately 26 mile point to point trail race in the Slide Mountain Wilderness Area of the Catskills. The course is described as hilly, rugged, and technical.

The route summits four Catskills High Peaks, including Slide, Cornell, and Wittenberg, and passes Giant Ledge, Cross Mtn, Mount Pleasant, and Romer Mtn. The race features nearly 7000 ft of elevation gain, and the descents are noted as more challenging than the climbs.

Entry requires prior trail race experience. To qualify, runners must have completed a trail race of marathon distance or longer within the last two years, finishing within the allowed race time and taking no more than twice the winning time. As an alternative qualifying result, completion of the Escarpment Trail Run in less than six hours within the last two years is accepted. Participant numbers are limited by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation because the event takes place in a designated wilderness area.

Proceeds from the race go to Run Wild, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports land conservation. The event date listed is September 26, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
