Catch the Leprechaun 5K
The Catch the Leprechaun 5K is a 5 km (3.1 mile) running event. The main race welcomes walkers, joggers, runners, and participants with strollers. Bicycles and dogs are not permitted on the course. A separate free event for children aged 10 and under is available, though they are not timed and do not receive race swag.
The course is a USATF-certified route on pavement, described as flat. It begins and ends at Blue Sky Endurance at Park Bend, Carolina Park. The route goes along Park Avenue Boulevard to Darrel Creek Trail and back. A water station is located at the intersection of Darrell Creek Trail and Faulkner Drive.
Multiple awards are presented. These include overall, masters, and grandmasters prizes, as well as age group awards. Additional costume categories are recognized, such as Best Dressed Duo and Most Festive St. Paddy's Day Outfit. A character known as the "local legend Leprechaun" will be on the course, and runners who finish ahead of this character receive a prize.
Participants receive a commemorative finisher medal and race t-shirt, though shirt availability for late registrants is not guaranteed. Post-race amenities include free food, beverages, and live music. A pre-race yoga session is offered at 8:00 AM. The event also includes a paid after-party option for non-runners.
Proceeds from the race benefit Racers for Pacers, a local nonprofit that provides running chairs for individuals with disabilities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
