Castle C'alf Fell Race

Castle C'alf is a fell race held in the Calderdale area that in 2026 will mark its fifth running and may be the final edition. The course covers the latter stages of the full Castle Carr race and passes through the private Castle Carr estate.

The route is approximately 12 km (7 miles) with about 490 m (1600 ft) of ascent. The event is licensed by the Fell Runners Association under UKA rules and is designated a non GPS navigation race. Competitors may use a GPS device for recording but electronic navigation aids are not permitted; declaring as a non competitive participant is required if GPS functions are used to navigate to safety.

FRA mandatory minimum kit is compulsory and will be checked before race number allocation. Required items include waterproof full body cover with taped seams, hat (not a buff), gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Small route changes have been made and the race will be flagged through the private Castle Carr estate; access to the estate is restricted before race day.

The event base is at Wadsworth Community Centre, Old Town, Hebden Bridge, with very limited parking so public transport and car sharing are encouraged. Minimum entry age is 18. Entry fees differ for FRA members and non members and entry opens one month before the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
