Castle C'alf Fell Race

Castle C'alf is a club organised fell race that covers the later stages of the full Castle Carr course and passes through the Castle Carr estate. The course distance is approximately 12 km with about 490 m of ascent and is held as a BM category fell race.

The event uses Wadsworth Community Centre in Old Town, Hebden Bridge as the venue. Parking at the venue is very limited. Hebden Bridge is served by regular trains and local buses; the 595 bus stops at the community centre.

Entry is by pre-entry with modest fees for members and non-members, and entry on the day may be available if the race limit is not reached. The minimum age for competitors is 18.

The race is licensed by the Fell Runners Association under UKA rules and is designated a non GPS navigational race. Competitors may use GPS devices to record their route but not to aid navigation; using GPS to navigate requires declaring as non-competitive at the finish. FRA mandatory minimum kit is compulsory and includes waterproof full body cover (waterproof jacket with hood and waterproof trousers with taped seams), hat (not a buff), gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Kit checks take place before numbers are issued and incorrect kit will prevent racing.

The route will be flagged through the private Castle Carr estate and competitors are asked not to enter that estate before race day. The course includes multiple moorland checkpoints and estate access points. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
