Captain of the Castle
Captain of the Castle is an unsanctioned relay race held on Castle Island in South Boston. Teams of four each run one mile around the perimeter of the Castle Island harbor loop, including a loop around Head Island. The course is an out-and-back route that begins and ends at Castle Island Beach.
Entries may be submitted as relay teams of four or as solo runners who will be placed on mixed-club teams. Registration for the event is free. Waves are planned with multiple relay teams per heat. Parking is available at Sullivan's and the meeting location is Castle Island Beach.
Prizes are awarded in several categories, including fastest overall team, fastest women and non-binary team, most team spirit, fastest mixed-club team, and closest to a predicted time. An afterparty is planned at a location to be announced.
Because the race is unsanctioned, there will be no road closures. Runners are responsible for their own safety and for yielding to pedestrians and cyclists as necessary to maintain a safe environment for everyone. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
