Captain of the Common Relay
Captain of the Common is an unsanctioned relay race held in Boston. The event takes place on a one-mile loop around the perimeter of the Boston Common. This evening race is organized by Endorphins Running and New Balance with the intention of gathering local running communities.
The competition features a specific team structure:
- 4 x 1 Mile Relay
Participants can register as a complete relay team of four runners or sign up as individuals to be placed on a mixed-club team. Each runner completes one lap of the Boston Common perimeter. The meeting location for the event is situated underneath the State House.
The race is organized into waves, with approximately 10 to 15 relay teams competing in each heat. Several categories of recognition are available for participating teams, including the fastest overall team, the fastest women or non-binary team, and the fastest mixed-club team consisting of runners from four different crews. Other categories include team spirit, the fastest club captains, and the team that finishes closest to their predicted time. Following the conclusion of the relay, a social gathering is planned at a nearby location for participants to share drinks and stories.
