Captain of the Castle
Captain of the Castle is an unsanctioned relay race held on the Castle Island harbor loop in South Boston. Teams consist of four runners, each running one lap of the roughly one-mile perimeter, for a total distance of 4 Miles. The event is presented by Endorphins Running and New Balance and gathers local running crews for evening relay heats.
Registration is open for relay teams and for solo runners who will be placed on mixed-club teams. Registration opens on 2026-06-15 and closes on 2026-08-16; the listed registration fee is free. The meeting location is Sullivans at Castle Island, 2080 William J Day Blvd, Boston, MA 02127. Organizers expect about 10 to 15 relay teams per heat; wave details and the afterparty location are to be announced.
Prizes will be offered in several categories, including fastest overall team, fastest women and non-binary team, fastest mixed-club team, fastest club captains, closest to predicted time, and most team spirit. Because the race is unsanctioned, there will be no road closures and participants are responsible for their own safety and for yielding to pedestrians and cyclists as necessary.
