Capital Backyard Ultra
The Capital Backyard Ultra is a Last Runner Standing endurance event held at Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area, 10702 Harley Rd, Lorton, Virginia. The race uses a repeated loop of 4.167 miles that begins on the hour every hour. A bell signals the start of each round and runners must be present when the final bell rings to continue. Participants may leave the course only to use the porta potty until they complete the loop.
The event has a maximum field of 60 runners and in 2026 is designated a Silver Ticket event. The final runner must complete one additional loop to be declared the winner. The 2026 winner receives a $1000 prize and a finisher award. No refunds will be offered.
Entry and selection follow stated criteria. Entry opens June 14, 2025, and runners enter via Ultrasignup and may place their name on the waitlist. Invitations are offered first to runners who have completed a 100 mile race or who have run this backyard ultra in a prior year, until capacity is reached. Runners who have completed a 50 mile race will be offered entry beginning December 1, 2025. Bronze Ticket winners and Elite Backyard runners receive entry as they become available. Applicants must accept an invitation to be entered. The nearest airports are Ronald Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport, approximately 30 and 40 minutes away respectively.
