Capital Backyard Ultra

Event Format

The Capital Backyard Ultra is a "last runner standing" event held at the Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area in Lorton, Virginia. The race format consists of runners completing a 4.167-mile loop that begins every hour. The event continues until only one runner remains, who must then complete one final loop to win. All other participants are recorded as "did not finish" (DNF).

Location and Capacity

The event is held at 10702 Harley Rd. in Lorton, a suburb of Washington, D.C. The race has a maximum capacity of 60 runners.

Registration and Entry

Registration is handled via Ultrasignup. An entry fee of $200 applies. The event uses an invitation system with the following criteria:

• Runners who have completed a 100-mile race or participated in a previous Capital Backyard Ultra receive priority.
• Bronze Ticket winners from other backyard ultra events also receive entry.
• Runners who have completed a 50-mile race may be offered entry starting December 1, 2025, if capacity allows.

Invitations must be accepted to secure a spot. Refunds are not offered due to the small field size.

Prize
