Cape Pallarenda Trail Run
The Cape Pallarenda Trail Run is the fifth event in a larger regional trail series, taking place in the Cape Pallarenda Conservation Park near Townsville. The event utilizes a varied trail network that includes technical single track, fire trails, steep rocky climbs, and flat sections. Participants run through historical sites, including WWII defence locations, and gain views of Magnetic Island and the Coral Sea.
The event offers four distinct distances to accommodate different levels of experience:
- 5 km (Gunners Salute): Includes beach running and a loop near the Forts with a descent into Shelly Beach.
- 12 km (Brolga Dreaming): Features the Lagoon Trail and a technical ascent of Mt Marlow followed by a descent to Bald Rock.
- 21 km (Heartbreak Half Marathon): Follows the Mt Marlow route and adds segments along the Under the Radar track and the Forts.
- 42 km (Mt Marlow Marathon): Covering the full trail network, including Smedleys Ridge and the complete Under the Radar loop.
Race Headquarters is located at Freemason’s Park in Pallarenda. The venue provides amenities such as toilets, drinking water, and a playground. Finishers have access to a fruit buffet and hydration. Mandatory safety gear is required for the 12 km, 21 km, and 42 km distances, including compression bandages, a whistle, a space blanket, and a mobile phone. Cut-off times are enforced at specific checkpoints for the two longest distances to ensure participant safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
