The Battleship Half Marathon began in 1998 and is noted as one of the older half marathons in the region. The nearby Battleship NORTH CAROLINA is moored across the river from downtown and is presented as part of the event's context; visitors can view exhibits and oral histories about the ship and her crew.
Pre-race logistics include an expo and packet pickup at the Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center on the day before the races, and limited day-of packet pickup at the race location for those unable to attend the expo. Race day programming includes an athlete village, finish-line activities such as live music, and awards for the various events.
