About the race
The Candy Cane event at Belle Haven Park in Alexandria offers chip-timed road distances on a paved section of the Mount Vernon Trail with minimal elevation change. The event includes both a 5 km and a 10 km course that follow the trail along the Potomac River. Walkers and strollers are welcome and a virtual race option is available for those who cannot attend in person.

Points from the event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack series, and also toward the Fall Series. The Back of the Pack listing is provided so participants with similar paces can earn series points.
Participants receive a finisher’s medal, a technical event shirt if registered by the deadline, and chip timing. Packet pickup is offered at Road Runner Sports in Arlington the day before the race; on-site packet pickup is also available. There is no on-site race registration.
Water stations are placed on the courses at approximate mile markers 0.9 and 2.5 for the 5 km, and at 0.9, 2.5, 4.0, and 5.55 for the 10 km; Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restrooms are available on site. Live results are posted online and a QR code at the race provides immediate access. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second in several age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
