Event Overview
Camp Sweeney's Play for the Day is a fundraising and community event centered on type 1 diabetes (T1D) awareness. It includes three event options: a 5K, a Fun Run, and a Sleep-In registration. The event takes place at Lake Highlands North Park in Dallas, Texas.
Purpose and Impact
The event was created 14 years ago by parents of Camp Sweeney campers. Its primary goals are to raise awareness for T1D, which affects about 1 in 400 children, and to raise funds for camp scholarships. Half of the children attending Camp Sweeney require financial aid. Since its start, the event has raised over $1.15 million, with a current annual goal of $200,000.
It also serves as a community gathering and kickoff for the summer camp season, where campers and families can meet counselors.
