About the race
The Cactus to Cloud Sky Race is a mountain trail running event held October 17-18, 2026 in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. It is organized by Wanderlust Running and listed as part of the Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series. The Sky Run begins at Oliver Lee State Park and the Cloud Run originates at the Cathey Trailhead area.

Organizers announced a course update because the Sunspot Solar Observatory is closed. The 32K start has moved to the Cathey Peak Vista parking lot, identified as parking lot 6 on Canyon Trail. That location also becomes the first major aid station for the 50K, approximately 1.7 miles further into the course than the previous aid station. A finalized course map was noted as forthcoming.
Shuttle service is provided for both distances, with pickups at the start/finish pavilion to transport runners to their respective starts. Participants are asked to indicate shuttle needs during registration. A shuttle is included at no additional cost for those registered for the full Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series.
The event route moves from lower desert areas into higher elevation forested terrain near Cloudcroft, using single track and historic rail bed trails.
