Cactus to Cloud Sky Race

The Cactus to Cloud Sky Race is a trail event in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, held October 17-18, 2026. It features point-to-point courses that move from desert lowlands into high-elevation mountain terrain around Cloudcroft, which sits near 8,676 ft.

The event offers these distances:

  • Sky Run 50K : Start: Oliver Lee State Park (409 Dog Canyon Rd, Alamogordo)
  • Cloud Run 32K : Start: Sunspot (3001 Visitor Center Rd)

Course terrain includes high-elevation single-track and historic rail-bed trails through stands of fir and spruce. The route is described as traveling from desert floor to mountain peaks and includes sustained elevation gain across varied landscapes.

Shuttle service is available; shuttles pick up at the start/finish pavilion and transport runners to the start locations. Shuttle service is included at no extra cost for participants who register for the full Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series.

This race is the third event in the inaugural Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series, a sequence of three summer-to-fall events based out of Cloudcroft. The event is organized by Wanderlust Running.
