About the race
Cactus to Cloud Sky Race is a mountain trail event held in and around Cloudcroft, New Mexico, organized by Wanderlust Running. The event includes two distances offered on rugged, high-elevation terrain that moves from desert ecosystems into fir and spruce forest above the Tularosa Basin. Course and logistics notes include a recent route update: the Cloud Run 32K now starts at Cathey Peak Vista Parking Lot (parking lot 6, Cathey Trail), and that same location serves as the first major aid station for the 50K, replacing last year’s aid near the Sunspot Solar Observatory. The aid station change places it about 1.7 miles further into the 50K course.
A full course map and final reroute details are pending. The event is presented as the third race in the Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series, based around Cloudcroft (elevation ~8,676 ft). Shuttle service is provided from the start/finish pavilion to the start areas for both distances; shuttle selection is part of registration and is included with series registration. Support comes from local partners and sponsors, and participants receive event shirts and finisher medals. Start locations named in event materials include Oliver Lee State Park for the Sky Race 50K and Cathey Trailhead for the Cloud Run 32K.
