Cactus to Cloud Sky Race - October 17-18, 2026

The Cactus to Cloud Sky Race is a trail running event near Cloudcroft, New Mexico, organized by Wanderlust Running. The event takes place October 17-18, 2026, and offers two point-to-point race distances that travel from desert terrain up into the Sacramento Mountains, around Cloudcroft (approximate base elevation 8,676 ft).

Distances

  • Sky Race 50K : Start at Oliver Lee State Park; point to point ultra.
  • Cloud Run 32K : Start at Sunspot Visitor Center; shorter point to point route.

The series is the third event in the inaugural Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series. The series is based out of Cloudcroft and features high-elevation single-track, fir and spruce forests, and historic rail-bed trails that move from the Tularosa Basin up into mountain terrain. Organizers describe the race as New Mexico's only point-to-point ultra trail race and as the state's highest-elevation course.

Logistics noted by the organizer include shuttle service for both distances; shuttles board at the start/finish pavilion and transport runners to the starts. A Summit Line course guide is available to review climbs, descents, and route details. For finishers, the event provides custom shirts and unique finisher medals. The event lists a range of supporting local partners and community sponsors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
