Byers Peak Stampede Half Marathon and 5K Run
The event in Fraser, Colorado, offers two timed running events on mostly unpaved roads and trails near the High Country Stampede Rodeo grounds. Distances include:
- 13.1 miles half marathon on a single loop course
- 3 miles 5K on primarily dirt roads
The half marathon begins at about 8,700 feet and rises above 9,500 feet. The half course has multiple aid stations on course stocked with water, sports drink, and fruit; the 5K has an aid station at the finish. Both races are chip timed. The half marathon enforces a time limit and requires runners to reach mile 9 by a set cutoff.
The event is family friendly and dogs on leash are allowed. Packet pick-up is offered the day before at Hideaway Park Brewery and also at the start line on race morning. Grand County residents are eligible for a local discount and must show proof of residency at check-in.
All proceeds benefit the Shining Stars Foundation. The foundation provides year-round programs at no cost and runs more than 65 experiences annually for children and families affected by cancer. The event meets criteria set by the American Trail Running Association for safety, organization, and environmental considerations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
