Sourdough Snowshoe Race
The Sourdough Snowshoe Race is a backcountry snowshoe event that tours the winter landscape around the Brainard Lake area near Nederland, Colorado. The South Sourdough Trailhead (115 Co Rd 116, Nederland, CO) serves as the start and finish location. The event is scheduled for February 6, 2027.

Racers begin from the South Sourdough Trailhead parking lot and head north on the trail to Brainard Lake Road. 18K participants turn around at Brainard Lake Road and return to the trailhead. 30K participants continue across Brainard Lake Road to follow the Sourdough Trail loop before returning to the trailhead. There is an outbound cutoff at Brainard Lake Road; runners who reach that point after the cutoff will be directed to turn around and complete the 18K. Runners who downgrade should check in with the aid station so organizers record the adjusted finish rather than a DNF.
Snowshoes are required for the entire race regardless of snowpack; racers must wear or carry snowshoes at all times. All racers are required to carry at least 1 liter of fluid and 600 calories of nutrition. Bib pick-up, check-in, and race day registration occur at the South Sourdough Trailhead. Cell phone service in Nederland is spotty; the trailhead address may help with navigation.
Aid station provisions include hot and sweet Sport Tea, water, granola bars, bacon, and other items, plus a Solo Stove with chairs and blankets. A small finish line hangout will include a warming tent, a propane fire pit, and hot cider or cocoa. Entry fees are listed as $35 for the 18K and $45 for the 30K.
