Event overview
The Sourdough Snowshoe Race is a donation-based backcountry event in Nederland, Colorado, held at the South Sourdough Trailhead near the University of Colorado Mountain Research Station off Peak to Peak Highway CO 72 on County Road 116. The event may change plans or requirements due to trail conditions for participant safety. Cell phone service in the area is spotty.

Course and logistics
Racers start at the South Sourdough Trailhead and head north on the trail to Brainard Lake Road. The 18K course turns around at Brainard Lake Road and returns to the South Sourdough Trailhead. The 30K course continues across Brainard Lake Road to follow the Sourdough Trail loop, then returns to Brainard Lake Road and on to the South Sourdough Trailhead. Bib pick-up and same-day registration are available at the trailhead. Detailed trail maps and GPX files are available on the race website.
Required equipment and aid
Racers are required to carry 20 ounces of liquid and 600 calories of nutrition. Snowshoes are required for the entirety of the race unless the race director changes the requirement because of trail conditions. An aid station is planned at the Brainard Lake turnaround offering hot and sweet Sport Tea, gels or similar products, and granola bars. A small finish-area hangout will include a warming tent, a propane fire pit, and hot cider or cocoa. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
