Buttermilk Mountain Backyard Bash, May 9, 2026
This is a backyard-style ultra held at Kate Furbish Preserve East in Brunswick, Maine. The event uses coastal single and double track at Buttermilk Mountain, which has listed elevation of 121 ft. The course is about a 12 minute drive from Bowdoin's campus.
Competitors run repeated laps of a 4.17 mile loop on the same course; a new lap starts every hour. If a participant does not complete a lap within the hour, they are removed from the race. There is a 12 hour cutoff time, allowing a maximum of 50 miles of running.
No race-provided nutrition is available. The organizer notes PFAS presence as guaranteed. The $20 registration fee is applied to race expenses, with remaining funds donated to the nonprofit Preble Street.
