Butterfield Canyon Marathon
The Butterfield Canyon Marathon and Half Marathon take place at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park in Herriman, Utah (8307 Herriman Hwy). Both events are run on trails that use single track, fire road, and dirt road through wooded ridges and canyon terrain. The course starts and finishes at the trailhead and passes through sections of rocky climbs, ridge running, and downhill single track.
Distances and primary course data:
- Marathon: 26.2 miles, +4,556 ft elevation, 72% dirt trail.
- Half Marathon: 13.1 miles, +1,950 ft elevation, 81% dirt trail.
Aid and navigation: aid stations are spread out on the marathon course (two stations) and the half marathon has one station; organizers require or recommend a hydration vest or bottle. Aid stations provide Tailwind, water, Honey Stinger products, fruit, and other snacks. The route is marked with pink flags, ribbons, signs, and trail marshals; wrong-way trails are marked with red flags.
Logistics and extras: packet pickup is available the day before at a local running store; same-day pickup is limited. Registration closes the night before the race. Runners receive a race shirt, a locally made finisher medal, free race photos, live results, and a post-race breakfast from Great Harvest Bread. Awards are given for overall places and age divisions.
