Butterfield Canyon Marathon
The event offers two distances run on single track trails that start and finish at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park near the Kennecott Mine. Trails pass through dense foliage and provide views of the surrounding mountains. The course includes steep, rocky climbs and downhill single track sections.
Course navigation uses pink flags, ribbons, signs, and trail marshals. Wrong turns are marked with red flags. Aid stations are stocked with Tailwind, water, Honey Stinger gels and waffles, fruit, and assorted small snacks. Race results are provided live and course photos are taken on the trail and at the finish and made available online using bib recognition without a watermark.
Included with entry are a high quality race shirt and a custom locally made finisher medal. Overall awards for male and female 1st through 3rd place are custom locally made plaques and 1st place gift cards from a local running store. Age division medals are awarded for top three male and female finishers in standard age groups through 70 plus.
Packet pickup is available the day before at the Salt Lake Running Store in Sandy and there is race day pickup. Free parking is available around the pavilion. Registration is offered in early, normal, and late tiers with late registration opening July 28 and closing August 27 at 11:59 pm. Average August temperatures are about 85F high and 63F low.
