The Summer Green Man Ultra overview

The Summer Green Man Ultra on 22 August 2026 is an ultra running event on the Community Forest Path around Bristol. The event is offered in two formats on the same day and course, with different start locations: the full loop and a partial loop that share checkpoints and the same finish at Ashton Park School. From 2026 the event will use competitor tracking.

Distances:

  • 45 miles (full clockwise loop)
  • 30 miles (partial clockwise loop, also called the Green Boy)

All finishers receive a GMU medal. T-shirt options are available as an optional extra at entry. Trophies are awarded to podium places and veteran winners in both distances.

Race details, checkpoints and navigation

The 45 mile race starts and finishes at Ashton Park School. The 30 mile race starts at The White Horse, Hambrook and finishes at Ashton Park School. The course is self-navigation and runs clockwise for the summer edition. Four manned checkpoints monitor times and wellbeing and provide water and basic food. The event is cup-free so competitors must carry a reusable cup. GPX route files and written directions are provided.

Safety, rules and kit

The event operates under timed cut-offs intended to allow completion within a 12 hour period; competitors who miss checkpoint cut-offs will not be allowed to continue. Entrants must be aged 20 or over. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, printed maps or GPS, compass, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Registration is required in advance and all payments are non refundable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
