The Summer Green Man Ultra

The Summer Green Man Ultra is a self-navigating endurance event held in the countryside surrounding Bristol. Participants follow the Community Forest Path in a clockwise direction, traversing a loop that includes country lanes, footpaths, and forest trails. The course features significant elevation, with the longest route reaching 3100 feet and the shorter route reaching 2657 feet.

Participants can choose between two main distances:

  • 45 Mile
  • 30 Mile

The 45 Mile route begins and ends at Ashton Park School in Bower Ashton. The 30 Mile route starts at The White Horse in Hambrook and joins the same course to finish at the school. Because the courses are self-navigating, runners are required to carry mandatory kit, including a compass or GPS device, Ordnance Survey Maps, a head torch with spare batteries, and emergency food. To assist those less confident with navigation, "Timelords" are available to run at consistent paces.

Four checkpoints are positioned along the route to provide water and nutrition, such as sandwiches, malt loaf, and fruit. Participants must sign in at every station. Finishers receive a medal and hot food at the finish line. Those who complete both the summer and winter editions of the 45 Mile race are eligible for a cumulative time-based buckle. The event has a minimum age requirement of 20 years old.

The main venue at Ashton Park School is approximately 1.4 miles from Parson Street railway station. Local parking is available at Ashton Event Parking and Church Lodge Car Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
