The Summer GMU
The Summer Mount to Coast Green Man Ultra is held on the Community Forest Path in and around Bristol and is offered in two formats on the same day, sharing checkpoints and the same finish location.
Distances
- 45 miles full clockwise loop, starting and finishing at Ashton Park School.
- 30 miles (Green Boy) partial clockwise loop, starting at The White Horse, Hambrook and finishing at Ashton Park School.
There are four checkpoints on the route that monitor times and wellbeing and provide water and basic nutrition. Example checkpoint provisions include sandwiches, cake, malt loaf, squash, cola, tea and coffee. Competitors must bring a reusable cup because the event is cup-free. Some checkpoints provide adjacent toilets or portaloo facilities; competitors who have started the race cannot use inside toilets at checkpoints.
The race is chip-timed at the start and finish with manual timing recorded electronically at intermediate points. From 2026 the event will include individual tracking. Finishers receive a bespoke Green Man medal; finisher t-shirts are available as an optional purchase from 2026. Podium trophies are awarded in male, female and veteran categories and there are additional top finisher medals and prize entitlements.
Entrants must be at least 20 years old and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps or GPS, compass, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. The event operates under set checkpoint cut-offs and organiser rules; timelords offer paced navigation at 9, 10, 11 and 12 hour targets.
