The Drop - Bristol
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge held from Up & Running, 38 North View, Westbury Park, Bristol BS6 7QA. Participants are taken to an undisclosed location and must find their own way back to the event centre without route guidance.
Distances offered include:
- 15 miles: dropped 15 miles as the crow flies, no navigation aids.
- 10 miles: dropped 10 miles as the crow flies, same rules as 15 miles.
- 6 miles: dropped 6 miles as the crow flies, open only to non-locals.
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. They receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration of the event. Deployment uses buses and blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; the drop location and orientation are unknown until blindfolds are removed. Time starts when blindfolds are removed.
Rules restrict navigation to on foot only, forbid GPS and unauthorised maps, and require the emergency bag seal to remain intact. Live GPS tracking is available as an optional safety feature; trackers must be returned or a replacement fee of £175 applies. Distances are measured as the crow flies and actual routes will be significantly longer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
