The Drop - Bristol
The Drop is a navigation challenge organised from Up & Running, 38 North View, Westbury Park, Bristol BS6 7QA. Participants are taken by bus, blindfolded, to an undisclosed location and must find their own way back to the event centre without route markers or reassurance.
Distances offered include:
- 10 miles as the crow flies from the event centre.
- 15 miles as the crow flies from the event centre.
- 6 miles as the crow flies open only to participants travelling from outside the area.
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches and navigational aids and receive a race number plus a sealed emergency bag to carry for the duration. Deployment involves blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives if required; when the blindfolds are removed the clock starts and every decision is the participant's responsibility. There is no map, no GPS, no compass and no external help once off the bus.
Rules include no GPS unless devices are sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, on foot only and disqualification for breaking the emergency bag seal. Distances are measured as the crow flies and actual routes will usually be longer. Live GPS tracking is available as an optional extra, trackers must be returned or a replacement fee will apply. Entry prices range from £35 to £55. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
