What It Is
The Drop - Bristol is a stripped-back navigation challenge, not a race with a defined route. Participants are transported by bus from the event centre at Up & Running in Bristol to an unknown "drop" location. They wear blackout blindfolds during the journey and must find their own way back on foot with no maps, GPS, compass, or navigation aids.
Distances
The event offers three distance challenges, measured "as the crow flies" from the drop location to the event centre. The actual distance traveled will be longer.
- 6 Miles: A shorter distance strictly for participants who are not local to the Bristol area and have no local route knowledge.
- 10 Miles
- 15 Miles: The original and longest version of the event.
How It Works
At registration, participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. In return, they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag to carry. After being driven to the undisclosed drop location, the challenge begins when the blindfolds are removed. Participants must navigate back to the event centre using only their own judgment. GPS trackers are available as an optional extra for live tracking; all trackers must be returned after the event.
Rules
Participants may not use GPS, unauthorised maps, or any form of transport. They must travel on foot only. The seal on the provided emergency bag must not be broken during the challenge. Breaking any rule results in disqualification.
Location
The event centre is Up & Running, 38 North View, Westbury Park, Bristol BS6 7QA. Public transport via rail or bus is available nearby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
