Chasing the Rainbows Bursting Bubble 5K Walk & Run
Chasing the Rainbows Bursting Bubble 5K Walk & Run is an in-person event at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY, with a virtual participation option. The event is held on Bereaved Mother’s Day weekend. Registration is not yet open.
The event raises awareness and provides support for families grieving infertility, pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant loss. Registration proceeds support Chasing the Rainbows’ 11 daily, free, trauma informed services. These services include virtual support groups held four times a day for a total of eighteen sessions each week, in-person support groups across the United States, peer mentors, trauma therapy, the Cry It Out Loud podcast, coping care packages, mindful movement, online private chat communities, resources for family members, perinatal bereavement training for medical units, and community events.
Onsite features include live online, text, and email results, free finish line photos, and personalized bibs if registered three weeks in advance. The event also offers bubbles, food trucks, raffles, face painting, a live DJ, vendors, and a Wall to Remember for reflection and tribute.
Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers and to the top finisher in age groups, including 19 and under, 20 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, and 70 plus. Strollers are welcome. Dogs are not allowed on the path or near the picnic area. Parking is available inside the park for an $8 fee per vehicle.
