Course and route

The race distance is 12K. The course is an out-and-back that runs almost completely around Burke Lake. The start and finish are at the northern end of the Burke Lake Park Ice Cream Parlor/Merry-Go-Round parking lot on the main roadway; "Start" is painted on the road surface. Runners proceed clockwise around the lake over mildly rolling terrain. The first half mile is on paved roadway; after a small bridge the route turns onto a dirt path with tree roots and protruding rocks. The turnaround is past the earthen dam, about 200 yards past the 4.0 mile marker; reaching the public marina indicates the turnaround was missed.
