Burke Lake 12K
The Burke Lake 12K is a running event taking place in Fairfax Station, Virginia. The race follows an out-and-back course that travels almost entirely around the perimeter of Burke Lake. Participants navigate a route featuring mildly rolling terrain that transitions between different surfaces.
The event consists of a single distance:
- 12 km
The start and finish line is located at the northern end of the Burke Lake Park Ice Cream Parlor and Merry-Go-Round parking lot on the main roadway. The word "Start" is painted directly on the road surface for identification. Runners begin by traveling clockwise around the lake. The initial half mile of the course is set on a paved main roadway. After crossing a small bridge, the path bears right onto a dirt trail.
Running with the lake on the right side, participants continue on the dirt path, which contains tree roots and protruding rocks. The route proceeds for three miles to a turnaround point located past the earthen dam, approximately 200 yards beyond the 4.0 mile marker. Once reaching the turnaround, runners head counterclockwise around the lake to return to the original starting point. Registration remains open until the evening prior to the event.
