Event Overview
This is the 11th Annual Building Healthy Communities 5K Run/Walk and Wellness Expo. The event aims to raise funds for the MUSC Children's Health Wellness Works Program, a wellness and weight management clinic for kids and teens.
Race Details
The race features a USATF-certified 5K course. Participants receive a t-shirt, a race packet with freebies, water, and healthy snacks with their registration. Official timing is provided. All finishers receive a medal. Awards are given to the top three in overall and age-group categories.
The race is open to participants aged 4 and over.
Wellness Expo and Activities
A Wellness Expo runs alongside the event, starting earlier in the morning. The expo features many community and wellness vendors. There is a raffle with prizes from local businesses; tickets can be purchased with cash or card.
Post-race activities include a finish-line party with a food truck (food for purchase), free face painting, the Wellness Expo, the prize raffle, award ceremonies, and healthy snacks. A group warm-up is led by a fitness instructor, and there will be special guests including a mascot and cheerleaders. Portable toilets are available on-site.
Logistics
Packet pickup, which includes the timing bib, t-shirt, and freebies, is available on the Friday before the event at Fleet Feet West Ashley in Charleston. On-site packet pickup and day-of registration are also available on race morning at Hampton Park.
