Buckeye Trail Blue Blaze Festival : Shawnee, OH
The Blue Blaze Festival celebrates the Buckeye Trail in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. It gathers trail runners, hikers and backpackers in the Village of Shawnee and highlights a section of the Buckeye Trail within Wayne National Forest. The trail in this area is mostly single-track and provides some very challenging terrain. The festival is presented with participation from Destination Shawnee, the Tecumseh Theater and local outdoor organizations.
Event distances offered at the festival include:
- Half Marathon 13.1 miles
- 10K 6.1 miles
- 5K Run/Walk 3.1 miles
- 10 Mile Hike 10 miles
All events take place on the Buckeye Trail in the Wayne National Forest. The 10 Mile Hike is an out-and-back route using a looped section of the Buckeye Trail with the start and finish in Shawnee. Hikers receive a race bib with a timing chip to monitor start and finish, and the hike is designed and led by the Little Cities of the Forest Chapter of the Buckeye Trail Association; a guide with historical points of interest and a route map is provided.
