Event Information
The Buck 50 is a 50 km ultra trail run that takes place in the southern Adirondacks near Lake George. The course is known for its rugged and remote trails.
Course Description
The route covers four of Lake George's tallest peaks, with a total elevation gain of 9000 ft. It starts and finishes at Camp Chingachgook on Pilot Knob Road in Kattskill Bay, NY. The course follows a dirt path to the Buck Mountain trail, then connects to the Sleeping Beauty trail via Shelving Rock/Dacy Clearing Road. From there, it proceeds over Sleeping Beauty and connects to the Black Mountain trail via Fishbrook Pond. After summiting Black Mountain, the route descends to Black Mountain Point on the shore of Lake George. It then climbs over the shoulder of Erebus Mountain and connects back to Dacy Clearing Road before returning over Buck Mountain to the finish.
Aid Stations and Cutoffs
The course features several aid stations.
- Aid Station 1 is at mile 6.6 at Dacy Clearing Road.
- Aid Station 2 is at mile 14.2 on the Black Mountain trail, with a 5-hour cutoff.
- Aid Station 3 is at mile 18.6 at Black Mountain Point.
- Aid Station 4 is at mile 25.3 at Dacy Clearing Road, with a 9.5-hour cutoff. The overall time limit to finish the event is 12 hours.
