Brokenagan Backyard Ultra and 24 Hour Endurance Run
The Brokenagan events take place at Silver Star Provincial Park, using the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre trails. Two formats run on a marked looped course that combines double-track and single-track, meadows, forest, marshland and lake-side sections with gentle elevation change.
One format is a Backyard Ultra where competitors must complete a 4.17 mile (6.7 km) loop every hour, on the hour, and remain in the central staging area between loops. The Backyard Ultra continues until only one runner completes a loop that no one else does; all others are recorded as DNF. This event is recognized as a Bronze Ticket event for the Backyard Ultra World Championships 2025 season, and the top performance is submitted for consideration toward Team Canada selection.
The second format is a 24 hour endurance run on a separate loop. Runners have 24 hours to complete as many 4.17 mile (6.7 km) loops as they can. Entries may be solo or team based, with only one team member on course at a time; outside assistance on course and pacing are not permitted.
Event facilities include a spacious staging area for personal aid tents (10x10), water and electrolytes for the duration, food available until mid afternoon, a cupless policy, and marked course navigation. A headlamp is mandatory for night running. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
