Brokenagan Backyard Ultra
The Brokenagan takes place at Silver Star Provincial Park in Vernon, BC, at about 5,500 feet elevation, and is organized by Bush Babes. The event includes two main formats on separate courses: a Backyard Ultra and a 24 hour solo endurance run.
The formats and distances:
- Backyard Ultra: loop of about 4.17 miles (6.7056 km) completed each hour
- 24 hour solo: repeated 5 km loops on a separate course
Backyard Ultra format details state that runners must complete one loop every hour and that the last runner to complete a loop is the winner; if no runner completes more loops than others, there is no winner. The Backyard Ultra course is described as a 4.17 mile loop composed of single and double track, a mix of hard pack and grassy terrain, and varied elevation. Loops pass through forest, open meadows with wildflowers, marshy lowlands, and past a mountain lake along the cross-country ski trails of Sovereign Lake Nordic Club.
A fully stocked manned aid station is available each lap with water, Tailwind, GU gels, electrolytes, fruit, snacks, music, and scheduled massage; volunteers staff support services. Organizers provide custom bibs, a swag bag, and a finisher prize. A large staging area is available for participant tents and rest between laps.
Entry details list an early registration fee of CAD 100 until Jan 31, 2027; participants must be 18 or older on race day, with minors allowed only by prior permission.
