Brokenagan Backyard Ultra and 24-Hour Endurance Run
Brokenagan takes place at Silver Star Provincial Park, at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre, on July 25–26, 2026. The event features two formats: a Backyard Ultra and a separate 24-hour endurance run.
The Backyard Ultra format requires competitors to complete a 4.17-mile (6.7 km) loop each hour and be ready at the start area to begin the next loop. The event continues until only one runner completes one more loop than all others; all others are recorded as DNF. This edition is recognized as a Bronze Ticket event for the 2025 season, which places the winner on the Canadian national leaderboard and submits the top performance for Team Canada consideration.
The 24-hour endurance run uses a separate loop. Solo runners or relay teams may attempt as many laps as possible within 24 hours; only one team member may be on course at a time under the event rules.
Facilities and rules include a central staging area with space for 10x10 aid tents, limited crew access, a cupless policy (bring your own cup), water and electrolytes supplied during the event, food available until 3:00 PM, mandatory headlamp for night running, no outside assistance on course, and environmental rules to stay on trail and avoid littering.
