Brokenagan Backyard Ultra and 24 Hour Endurance Run
Brokenagan features two trail events at Silver Star Provincial Park, Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre, on July 25 to 26 2026. Registration opens November 1 through the race registration platform.
The Backyard Ultra format requires completing a loop of approximately 6.7 km each hour. Runners must be present in the starting area at the bell to begin each loop. The backyard format is strictly solo; it continues until one runner completes a loop that no other runner completes. Outside assistance and pacing are not allowed on the loop.
The 24 hour endurance event uses a separate course. Competitors have 24 hours to complete as many loops as possible. Entries are accepted for solo runners and teams; only one team member may be on course at a time. Between laps runners may rest in the staging area but may not receive aid while on the course.
Event staging includes spaces for personal 10x10 aid tents, on site volunteers, water and electrolyte stations for the event duration, and toilet facilities. The event is cupless so each participant must bring their own cup. The Brokenagan Backyard Ultra is a Bronze Medal event in the Backyard Ultra World Championships system; the winner is entered on the Canadian national leaderboard and their result is submitted for Team Canada consideration. Race rules emphasize following course markers, no short cutting, mandatory headlamp for night running, and required signed waiver prior to participation.
