Brodick Glencloy Trail on the Isle of Arran
The Brodick Glencloy Trail is a trail running event located on the Isle of Arran. The course follows a route that begins and ends in Brodick, primarily utilizing rough footpaths and forestry roads. The event is held under Scottish Athletics rules and maintains an entry limit of 100 participants.
The distance of the event is:
- 10 km
The route starts at the Ormidale Sports Field and travels through the West Mayish estate before joining the Old Lamlash Road footpath. Runners ascend a rough footpath to the top of the hill situated between Brodick and Lamlash. The course then transitions onto a broad forestry road for approximately half a mile before descending into Glen Cloy. After crossing the Cloy Burn via a forestry bridge, the path leads back down through rough fields and follows a track beside the burn to the finish line at the bottom of Auchrannie Road.
The course features approximately 600 feet of total ascent. Given that only a small portion of the route, roughly 250 yards, consists of tarmac or pavement, the use of trail shoes with grip is recommended.
Facilities at the Ormidale Sports Pavilion include toilets and changing rooms. The pavilion is located approximately a 15-minute walk from the Brodick ferry terminal. Parking is available for those traveling by car at the Ormidale Sports Ground car park. Local eating facilities are available in Brodick for post-event dining. This event is open to participants aged 16 or older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
