Bridge Day 5K Run
The Bridge Day 5K is a point-to-point road race held on the New River Gorge Bridge and finishing in downtown Fayetteville in front of the Fayette County Courthouse. The event takes place during the larger Bridge Day festival, which draws an estimated 60,000 to 90,000 visitors and features BASE jumpers from the bridge.
The race is limited to 600 entrants. Registration benefits listed by the organizer include a race t-shirt (for those registered by September 27), a racer packet, chip timing, a finisher medal, race photos and posted results, course marshals at turns, a water station, finish line snacks, and bus transportation before and after the race. Friday evening packet pickup is offered at the Memorial Building in Fayetteville; Saturday morning packet pickup is available at designated North and South check-in locations.
Logistics note that Route 19 and the bridge are closed to vehicle traffic on Bridge Day and that all racers start on the North side of the bridge. The first mile across the bridge is a run-only section with no walking allowed per event and Bridge Day regulations. Items prohibited for the overall Bridge Day event include dogs, backpacks, coolers, folding chairs, bicycles, skates, skateboards, wagons, and drones.
