Breakaway 5K

The Breakaway 5K is an annual road race in Old Orchard Beach that also features the Marilyn & Nat Golzbein Memorial Fun Run. The event serves as the principal fundraiser for MAPS Scholarship Foundation; 100% of proceeds directly benefit scholarships for Old Orchard Beach High School graduates. In 2025 the foundation awarded sixteen $1,000 scholarships.

The race course begins at the corner of Walnut Street and Milliken Street in front of the public parking lot, follows Milliken Street and West Grand Avenue to Ocean Park, and returns to a finish at The Brunswick on West Grand Avenue. The course is mostly flat. A race t shirt is provided to the first 300 registered runners.

Event logistics include pre race packet pickup at the Milliken Mills parking lot and race day packet pickup at the same location. Free race day parking is available in the public lot on Milliken Street until 10:00 am. Post event activities at The Brunswick include a continental breakfast and an awards ceremony.
