Dargle Four Peaks
Dargle Four Peaks is an open mountain race in County Wicklow that visits the four peaks of the upper Dargle Valley: Djouce, War Hill, Tonduff and Maulin. The route is approximately 15.00 km with about 800 m of climb. The event is classed as Difficulty 8, denoting moderate terrain, more than 500 m ascent and a distance over 10 km. The route is not marked and competitors must self-navigate. GPS devices are not allowed for navigation in championship races.
This is a free route choice event. Competitors may choose the sequence, direction and lines they take to visit the required summit features. The official start and finish are at Boleyhorrigan (grid O 164 084). Key summit features are specified on the route: Djouce trig point, Maulin small cairn, Tonduff South carved boulders and War Hill small cairn.
The race is part of the Leinster Championship. Mandatory Level C kit is required and includes a waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams; hat or buff; gloves; whistle; charged mobile phone with emergency number stored; foil blanket or bivvy bag; waterproof full leg cover; means to carry at least 500 mL water; emergency food; map of the route or area and a compass. Use of a phone or other electronic device for navigation requires declaring non-competitive status and returning by the shortest safe route. Parking is on the R759 opposite Pier Gates; expect a roughly 25 minute jog from that car park to the start area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
