Course and safety

The route runs west along the river, then climbs across rough ground to the summit of Bollihope Carrs, descends east to the summit of Catterick, and returns by a steep descent to the start. The route is unmarked and navigation with map and compass is required in poor visibility. Full FRA kit is required, including map (provided), compass, whistle, hat, gloves, a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, and waterproof trousers with taped seams. GPS should not be used for navigation. Poles are not allowed.
